Poissonnerie Cap’Ten Encourages a Feeling of Community -- and Access to Top Notch Seafood
Tucked away along the Route de Nice on the edge of the old village of Valbonne is a must-stop for all of our seafood-loving friends. Poissonnerie Cap’Ten - the village poissonnerie or fish shop, as the Americans would call it - was one of the first purveyors Makenna met and bonded with after buying La Peetch and bringing her cooking school concept to the French countryside.
Though they aren’t known for their web presence, what little they have posted gives you an idea of some of the options they have. (Photos of their shrimp alone will make you salivate - just peep the above blog photo we took in the shop!) Crustacean tanks line the walls to choose your own to-go meals, with a variety of shellfish to choose from. This poissonnerie is hailed by locals, and carries super fresh seafood from the area as well as other parts of France. Occasionally, on any special given week, they’ll stock some of the juiciest salmon from Northern Europe.
La Peetch uses Poissonnerie Cap’Ten seafood for the cooking school, and Makenna and Chris enjoy their offerings when preparing regular, everyday meals for their family. If you book an experience on the property, there’s a chance you’ll enjoy something the shop has to offer at some point during your stay, however, taking a quick trip into town to visit with the staff could also be in the cards. The little operation offers catering and was hired to prepare food for Makenna and Chris’ wedding celebration on the property back in June 2019.
The manager's name is Max and since the name “Makenna” is difficult for the French to pronounce, she has also earned the nickname "Max" from Max and his staff. It never hurts to mention her name when you’re in, though Makenna doesn’t often miss an opportunity to pop into this spot with you!
