The La Pitchoune Saltwater Pool Allows Guests a Heightened Experience of Relaxation and Beauty

Today, the pool on the La Pitchoune property is one of the most relaxing draws to the space. Even when guests aren’t fully aware of all of our amenities, their faces light up when they approach the cool, blue reflection of the water. A luxury we are absolutely delighted to have, the pool has a little bit of history to it as well.

When Paul and Julia used the house, the area where the pool lies now was simply a rolling field just past the terrace. From photos, we know it was absolutely breathtaking, much like views around the remainder of the property. While we aren’t entirely sure when it was installed, the pool did exist when La Pitchoune was purchased for its current purpose. It was a thrilling discovery, an added extravagance that really makes this place feel like an oasis in its own right.

But the pool had pale yellow tiles when Makenna took over the property, which gave off a decidedly unappetizing hue. Needless to say, one of the first big projects was retiling the pool with the current blue tiles. While we are big supporters of keeping true to the integrity of the property, it’s safe to say that the pool was a small fix. Plus, it feels so much more organic to the property and its features.

The task of re-tiling the pool was taken on in typical Makenna fashion and involved looking at countless tile samples. (So many so, that I am sure it will be another several years before we enjoy perusing tile samples at our local hardware store - and all over the vast expanses of the internet - again.) But - based on the reactions we get time and time again - I think we can all agree that she made the right choice. It's definitely one of the most popular places on the property to spend time, even during the time of year the pool is too cold to swim in.

Another really fun upgrade that has proven to be a good idea over and over again is that the pool has been converted to saltwater. This makes the experience much more pleasant on the skin, void of the harsh chemicals found in chlorine that can damage and strip your skin of natural oils. The pool itself is surrounded by a few olive trees and plenty of rose bushes, which makes it perfect to lounge by year round.

Plus, it's a pretty magical spot to read a book and catch some sun rays - if you’re looking for suggestions, of course.
